Obituary

William Austin Cabbage, 75, of Radford, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2009. He was a U. S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of First Baptist Church in Radford. He was a chemical engineer at the Radford Arsenal where he retired after 37 years of service. He was born in Union County, Tennessee on January 21, 1934, the son of the late Fred Austin and Thelma Beeler Cabbage. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Julia Judy Kidd Cabbage of Radford; two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael C. and Sondra Cabbage of Baltimore, MD, and Dr. Brian W. Cabbage of Radford; two grandchildren, Max and Sofia Cabbage of Baltimore, MD; four sisters and brother-in-law, Anita C. Lee of Tucson, AZ, Rosemary C. Cabbage of Oak Ridge, TN, Carol C. Hill of Staunton, and Susan C. and Rolland Waters of Vail, AZ; mother-in-law, Marie C. Leffel of Radford; sisters-in-law, Betty L. Fox of Alexandria, and Betty S. Kidd of Salem; and several nieces and nephews. Thanks to all the people that helped in Bills care: Dr. Richard Shepherd; the many helpers from Medi Home Health and Hospice; Donnie Hale, Bills caregiver; and the Drs. and nurses that treated Bill in the emergency room at Carilion NRV Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 31, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Dr. James E. Baucom and Rev. Arlis J. R. Shelor officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Medi Home Health and Hospice, 102 N. Washington Ave., Pulaski, VA 24301 or to a charity of your choice. The Cabbage family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
