Virginia Walker Akers, 83, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at her home in Radford. She attended Morgans Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, James Kyle Akers; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Gary Akers of Carthage, Illinois; granddaughter and her husband, Sarah and Ian ONeal of Bowen, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kaitlyn ONeal; sister Dorothy Skaggs of Radford; and brother Johnny Walker of Chesapeake. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 7 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Darlene Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until the time of the service at 7 pm. Interment will be Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 10 am at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Morgans Chapel UMC, c/o Buddy Sutton, 7572 Jackson Avenue, Radford, VA 24141 or VFW Post #776, 1303 Wadsworth St., Radford, VA 24141.
