I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.II Timothy 4:7 Virginia Giny Lee Akers, also known as Gigi to many, has won her battle. She has lived in Pulaski County all of her life and now has decided to set up a more peaceful and permanent residence with her Lord. Giny was born on February 2nd, 1936. She grew up in Belspring, Virginia and graduated from Dublin High School in 1953. She attended Radford College for 1 1/2 years. On November 19th, 1955 she married Frank Willard Akers. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to those who affectionately called her Gigi. She was an employee of Klopman Mills and Pulaski County Schools until she retired in 1999. She was also a lifetime member of Belspring Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert Gray and Lena Ferrell Ratcliffe, her brother Bobby Ratcliffe, and her nephew Tony Ratcliffe. She is survived by her husband of 51 years Willard Akers, her daughter Karen Akers, her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and John Buckner, her two granddaughters and their husbands Kara and Geoff McCulloch and Keli and Chris Lichty and her three great-grandchildren; Taylor, Cade, and Hayley McCulloch. She is also survived by her nieces Connie Ratcliffe, Luann Morgan, and their mother Barbara Tickle. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 12, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Belspring Presbyterian Church with Rev. Laura Gentry and Rev. Joe McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Hickman Cemetery in Pulaski County.
