Sylvia Virginia Tolbert Akers, 87, passed away at her home in Radford on Monday, November 17, 2014. She was a member of Carter Street United Methodist Church. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Akers, and her parents, James and Stella Tolbert. She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Steven Troy and Gwenn Akers of Radord, and Barry Lynn Akers of Dublin; grandchildren, Michael Troy Akers, Barry Lynne Akers II, Brandon Calvin Akers, Samantha Akers and Allyson Akers; step grandchildren, Mitch and Nikki Roberts; and special canine companion, Abby. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the Carter Street United Methodist Church in Radford with Rev. Betsy King officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Carter St. UM Church, PO Box 3296, Radford, VA 24141.
