Sidney Hascue Nelson, 86, of Radford, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2011. He was retired from Hercules with 36 years of service where he was a motor winder and electrician. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy during WWII on the mighty Tisdale, a destroyer escort and was a member of VFW Post #776. He was also a member of Central United Methodist Church and the local VA May Masonic Lodge #38 A.F. & A. M. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick H and Monnie Starnes Nelson and wife of 61 years, Beth Carlson Nelson. Left to treasure his memory are three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Nelson of Dublin, Jeanie and Mike Anderson of Radford, and Betty and Dave Whitley of Radford; four grandchildren and their spouses, Sydney and Mark Price of Radford, Jon and Jennifer Anderson of Advance, NC, Travis and Christina Whitley of Purcellville, and Carter Whitley and Morgan Carpenter of Radford; two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Lawson and Olivia Beth Lawson; and faithful feline companion, Simon, who just doesnt understand. A celebration of the lives and marriage of Sidney and Beth will be held Sunday, January 15, 2012, at their home at 6800 Viscoe Road in Fairlawn between the hours of 2 pm and 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Beth Nelson Scholarship Fund at Radford University, the Pulaski Society or Radford Pound Pals.
