Sherman Aker Collins, 75, of Radford, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011. He served in the USMC, was a member of Central United Methodist Church, a retired mechanic and owner of Colonial Gulf Station for 25 years, a member of the Marine Corp League ,Radford, Lions Club, VFW, VA May Lodge #38, Gideons, Mens Prayer Group, NRV Emmaus, Montgomery County Moose Lodge and was an avid bowler. He was born in Max Meadows, VA to the late George and Susie Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Brady, David, Frank, Scott, Walter and Bill Collins, and sister, Rachel Davis. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dawn Cox Collins; daughters, Gale Collins and Sharon Ross; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Dana Collins and Dean and Tracy Collins; grandchildren Alicia Lytton-Grace, Kristen Lytton-Graves, Amber Ross and Sierra Ross; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends Monday evening August 22, 2011 beginning at 5 pm at the Central United Methodist Church in Radford. Memorial services will follow at 7 pm with Rev. Don Shelor officiating. A Graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 10 am at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Central UMC, 803 Wadsworth St., Radford, VA 24141 or the American Diabetes Assoc., 4335 Cox Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
