Sharon Ann Darnell Long, 65, of Radford, passed away on August 31, 2022, at Commonwealth Senior Living. Sharon was born on June 20, 1957, to parents Hugh Darnell and Anna Darnell, who have preceded her in death. She was a 1975 graduate of Ashe County High School and 1979 graduate of Wake Forest University with a B.A. in English. She worked as a librarian, a teacher, and a designer in public relations. She had a love for learning, especially literature, an appreciation for art, and a deep love for her family. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dr. Gary Long of Radford, Va., her children Jessica Long of Radford, Va. and Nathan Long (Jill) of Browns Summit, N.C., as well as her grandchildren Riley and Colbie Long of Browns Summit, N.C. She is also survived by her brother Phil Darnell (Bennett), sister Teresa Rose (John), and nieces and nephews. Services will be private.
