Samuel Woodrow Cox, 78, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026, at his home in Pulaski surrounded by his family. Sammy was an amazing person and never met a stranger. He could fix anything and was a fountain of knowledge. He retired from Volvo Trucks but when he wasn’t working, he loved being outdoors, going on adventures and traveling all over the U.S. with his wife Smurf. He also loved and restored antique cars.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Anna Zuehlke Cox.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Brenda M. Cox “Smurf”; son, Matthew “Matt” John Cox; daughters, Michelle Fithian (Steve), Samantha “Sam” Martin (Rob), and Cynthia “Cindy” Moore; grandchildren, Amanda Fithian, Jake Martin (Devyn), Adam Fithian (Karli), Tanner Martin, Luke Fithian, Hayden Keister, and Seth Keister; great grandchildren, Judson and Dallas Fithian; and many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to ACG Hospice, Carilion NRV Surgical Care Unit, and Barbara Gilmer.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. A celebration of Sammy’s life will begin at 6 p.m. with Adam Fithian officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
