Obituary

Samuel Laird Harman, 84, died Saturday, August 2, 2008. He was a WWII veteran having served in the U. S. Army Air Corps, 9th Squadron, 7th Bombardment group, stationed primarily in India. He held a Bachelor of Law degree from Washington and Lee University, and a Master of Arts Degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents, James William Harman, Sr. and Coralie Rachel Laird Harman both of Tazewell, by his wife Mary Frances Sommerville Harman and by his brother, James William Harman, Jr He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Christina Harman, his son, Allen Jefferson Harman, two grandsons, Samuel Douglas Harman and Christopher Allen Harman, nephews James William Harman III and Johnathan Herring Harman; by marriage, niece Deborah Ann Sommerville Sheils, and nephews Charles Howard Sommerville and Douglas Brandon Townsend, as well as by numerous members of his extended family, in-laws, and friends. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Beulah House, Inc. P.O.B. 478, Dublin, VA 24084. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Maple Wood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA with Rev. John Webb officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Mullins Funeral Home. The Harman family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
