Ruth Ann Akers, 81, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, October 13, 2008. She was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank Walker and Velda Akers, son Kermit Shively Jr. and a daughter Connie Sue Burton. Survivors include two granddaughters and spouses, Cindy and Robbie Morris of Dublin and Jennifer and Clint Ison of Pulaski; three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Morris of Dublin, and Stacy Carr and Steven Ison both of Pulaski; special grandson, Robert China Jones; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford with Rev. J.P. Hale officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Caner Society, 2316 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. The Akers family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
