Roy Irving Bob Lloyd, Jr., 76, of Radford, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he loved singing in the choir. He was a U. S. Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy and the U. S. Army Reserves. During his military career he attended U. S. Navy Engineman School and Submarine School, US Army Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Sergeants Major Academy, and numerous other military courses. In 1992, he honorably retired from the USAR with 39 years of continuous service holding permanent rank of Command Sergeant Major, AUS. He was retired Radford City Assistant Manager and was involved in various activities in the Radford community. He served in many positions on several committees and authorities including the construction of the New River Valley Regional Jail, Radford Recreation Center, Radford Fire Station, Virginia Employment Commission Building, Radford Public Library, Radford Municipal Building, and Bissett Park. Bob was a proud 1950 graduate of Narrows High School. He attended VMI and graduated from VPI in 1964. He was predeceased by his parents Roy Irving Lloyd, Sr. and Phoebe Catherine Trout Lloyd. Survivors include his loving wife Sylvia Miller Lloyd; three children, Dianne L. (Timothy) Clark of Radford, Benjamin B. (Laura) Lloyd of Owensboro, KY, and Angela M. (Scott) Hill of Christiansburg; six grandchildren Zachary Leelin and Nicholas Irving Clark, Caleb Irving and Isaac Hayes Lloyd, and Michael Thomas and Matthew Lee Hill; two brothers, David (Donna) Lloyd and Thomas (Nancy) Lloyd, all of Narrows; sister, Suzanne (Fred) Sawyers of Montana; many beloved nephews and nieces; sister-in-law Cheryl (Neil) Rogers; brother-in-law Kent (Dorinda) Miller; and step-mother-in-law Dulcene H. Miller. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Central United Methodist Church in Radford with Pastor Tammy Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Narrows where military graveside rites will be conducted. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
