Roxie Marie Compton Vicars, 86, went to be with Her Lord and Savior at her home in Radford on Wednesday, May 14, 2008. Roxie was born December 2, 1921 in Council, VA the daughter of the late Evans and Isa Maine Powers Compton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death in by her parents, a sister, Alice Hayes, two brothers Lowell Compton and Harry B. Compton, and her faithful and loving husband of 65 years Warren H. Vicars who preceded her in death in January of 2008. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Leon and Pam Vicars of Radford, Wayne and Vicki Vicars of Piedmont, SC, and Warren Harding Vicars, Jr. and his girlfriend, Pam of Radford; two daughters and son-in-law, Shirley Marie Vicars and special friend Doug Grantham, and Betty and Jimmy Covey, all of Radford; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fate Compton of Arlington and Ray Compton of Abingdon; and four sisters Ina Southall of Roanoke, Etta Tiller and Betsy Hess, both of Council and Jean Gilbert of Davenport. The family would like to give a special acknowledgement of thanks to dear friend, neighbor and caregiver, Ozina Smith and also to Betty Shepherd, who loved our mom like her own. Thanks also to the PCU at Carilion Hospital for all their love and compassion shown to our mother during her hospital visits over these past 2 months and to Dr. Athena Howard for her care and prayerful concern with our mother. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Ersel Alderman officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery in Radford. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 325 Randolph Avenue, Pulaski, VA.
