Obituary

Robert R. Jones, 81, formerly of Ghent, died January 3 at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, Virginia after a prolonged illness. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Louise Moore Jones, his devoted daughter and son-in-law Laura Jones and Mark Bernhard, his adoring grandchildren Sam, Amy and Jake Bernhard, other relatives and a lifetime of friends. He will be greatly missed by a legion of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews who he kept laughing throughout his lifetime. Bob was born in Chatham on September 17, 1930, and was named by his parents, John and Elizabeth Jones, for golfing great Bobby Jones. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany in 1948. He worked for the New York Department of Health as an x-ray technician, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and worked for Keleket and United X-Ray Corporations installing and maintaining radiological equipment until he was disabled in an automobile accident in 1978. Upon his disability, Bob devoted his time to the care and keeping of his home, tending his garden, and following his beloved New York Yankees. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the National Library Service for the Blind, 1291 Taylor Street NW, Washington, DC 20542. A graveside service will be held in Ghent at a later time.
