Obituary

Robert Lee Farmer, Sr., 71, passed away suddenly at his home in Hiwassee on Friday, August 26, 2011. He was retired maintenance supervisor at the Lynchburg Foundry and a proud veteran of the U. S. Marines having served during the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife Joyce Marie Farmer; four sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Barbara McKinney of Florida, Robert Lee Farmer, Jr. and Larry Akers, Jr., both of Radford, and Randy Akers and Dawna of Radford; daughter and friend, Monica Duncan and Joe of Radford; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Don Underwood of Seattle, WA, and Bonnie and Floyd Wood of Fairlawn; grandchildren, Justin Akers, Cierra Emmert, Lara, Jasmine, Sarah, Matt, Paul, Josh, and Brandon; and special friends Jim and Erleine Morrisson, Jerry Vaughn, Marcel and Judy and Bill Burton. The family would like to thank the 911 dispatcher and crew who responded to their home. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 6 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Danny Collins officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to help defer the funeral costs be made to Joyce Farmer, C/o First NRV FCU, P. O. Box 2963, Radford, Virginia 24143. The Farmer family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
