Raymond Lamarr Larry Amy, of Radford, passed away on his 60th birthday, Friday, August 13, 2010. He was the Environmental Engineer for the City of Radford and was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during the Vietnam War in the 101st Airbourne during which time he was awarded a Purple Heart. Larry was very involved with Special Olympics, Red Cross, Radford/Fairlawn Daily Bread, Radford United Way, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He also served on the board of the New River District Community Sentencing Program, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Building Committee at St. Jude's Church, was active as a leader in Boy Scouts, and coached all levels of Rec League sports for the City of Radford. He graduated from Corry Area High School in 1968, St. Johns River College with an A. S. Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, and attended University of North Florida in the Civil Engineering Program. Larry was a n avid golfer and enjoyed photography, painting, history and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Gloria Amy and his father-in-law Norman Smith. Survivors include his wife of 33 years Cheryl L. Amy of Radford; two sons, Christopher Amy of FL and Erik Amy of Radford; his father Ray Amy of Corry, PA; three brothers and sisters-in-law, David Amy of Inman, SC, and Joe and Joette Amy and Kevin and Sally Amy, all of Corry, PA; a sister Colleen Amy of Corry, PA; mother-in-law Dorothy Smith of Corry, PA; two brothers-in-law and their wives Alan and Carol Smith of Girard, PA and David and Barbara Smith of Mooresville, NC; and many nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Radford with Father Ken Shuping officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. A memorial service will also be held Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bracken Funeral Home in Corry, PA with Father Tom Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Bracken Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the Special Olympics, American Red Cross, Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, American Cancer Society or a charity of ones choice.
