Obituary

Ray Wendell Horton, Jr., 93, of Blacksburg, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013. He was born March 19, 1920, the son of the late Ray Wendell and Wilhelmina Horton. He lived a full life, serving in the U. S. Navy during WWII followed by working for Duro-Test corporation for 38 years and 25 years of full time volunteer work for the U. S. Forestry Service. Wendell was known to his family and friends as a kind man of quiet dignity with a love for the outdoors. He will be missed and remembered by his wife of 65 years, Alice "Tally" Horton, his two nieces, Alice Kline and Elizabeth Old, and his great nieces and nephews, William, Taylor, Meriwether, Rachel, and Guerin. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 9:30 am at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at Grace Episcopal Church, 210 Fourth St., Radford with Rev. David Rose officiating. The family will visit with friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flower the family request donations made to the Boys' Home, 414 Boys' Home Road, Covington, VA 24426. The Horton family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
