Rachel May Newcomb, 91, of Radford, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 18, 2011. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Radford and was a self-employed beautician, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed her family, friends and the companionship of Rusty, the family dog. Her laughter and good humor were a delight to all that knew her. She was very generous with her Thank You Honey. A special thank you to Nelson and Barbara who lovingly cared for her and a special appreciation to her Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis Jackson Newcomb, Sr., daughters, Diane Grayson and Linda N. Sifford, and her six brothers and sisters. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Barbara Newcomb of Radford; son-in-law, Nelson Sifford of Radford; grandchildren, Leslie Grayson, Debbie Harrison, Frank Grayson, Jon Grayson, Sara Howell, Eric Sifford, Karen Parker, Missy Akers, Niki Shepherd and Chris Newcomb; twenty great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews. Death is not extinguishing the light. It is putting out the flame because the dawn has come. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Radford with Rev. Paul Lane and Rev. Kent Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Music Fund, 215 Third Ave., Radford, VA 24141. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of the service at the church. The Newcomb family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
