Rachel Brooks Coates, 93, of Radford, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Lawson and Annie Marshall Brooks, husband, Edward Malcolm Coates, and four brothers and one sister. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Harold Wayne of Richmond, and Sandy and John Ruth of Fincastle; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Vashti Coates of San Antonio, TX, and John (Kit) and Becky Coates of Kingsport, TN; sister, Mat Wingfield of Lynchburg; 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren For 71 years she was a resident of Radford and also a beloved member of First Baptist Church. She was well known for her creative abilities of sewing, crafting, cooking, service to others, and her community. She delivered Meals-On-Wheels for over 30 years. One of her greatest joys in life was caring for her family and their friends. She was an inspiration to all whose lives she touched. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2:30 pm at the First Baptist Church in Radford with Rev. Paul Lane and Rev. John Coates officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm at the church. The Coates family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford, Virginia.
