Philip Taylor Hendrix of Radford passed away Thursday, July 16, after a brief illness at age 78. Phil was born in Radford where he spent his entire life, the son of Carl and Helen Phillips Hendrix. He retired from Volvo Trucks as an IT programmer/analyst. Phil graduated from Radford High School and attended Emory & Henry and Virginia Tech. An avid fly fisherman, he explored and fished streams in Canada, Colorado and Tennessee and the many trout streams of Southwest Virginia. He volunteered at the Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread for years.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Rebecca Hendrix; his loving daughter Heidi (Tom) Cofran and grandchildren Caroline and Claire; step-children, Lauren Sprouse and Michael (Christi) Mullins and step-grandchildren Madelynn, Miller, and Graydon; and a host of dear friends. Phil was predeceased by his wife Sally Slusher Hendrix and his sister Carla Lewis. In accordance with his wishes, Phil donated his body to the Virginia Anatomical Program as a gift to the living to be used for study and research in medical education.
The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 11 AM on Saturday, August 15 at the Presbyterian Church of Radford at 201 Fourth Street, Radford. Memorial services will begin at 11 AM. To honor Phil's love of trout fishing and the natural beauty of his home state, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Council of Trout Unlimited at 1700 N. Moore Street, Suite 2005, Arlington, VA 22209-2793, or The Radford Fairlawn Daily Bread at P.O Box 3323, Radford, VA 24141.
