Mrs. Saunders was employed by the Wyoming County School Board in Wyoming County, WV as an educator for 32 years. She went to heroics to earn her bachelors degree, while raising eight children, helping her terminally ill husband, and commuting to finish school. She received her Masters degree at age 57, continued teaching until she was 72 years old and was a dedicated mentor building lifelong relationships with her students. William Arthur Ward said, "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." Momma was an inspirational person at all times, whether teaching, speaking or sharing. She continued to be a lifelong learner; just last year leading a study in her home of The Books That Changed History. She will be especially missed by her students at Herndon High School, Herndon, WV. Pauline was active in the Mullens, WV Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and lay speaker. She loved to play Rook, Bridge, Canasta & Mexican Train Dominoes with family and friends. Pauline was known as a prayer warrior and many friends called upon her to pray during difficult times. She was the source of strength, stability and courage and remained the central go to guide within her family. She was known for her independence, persistence and generosity; was a deep thinker, a great debater and carrier of wisdom and could engage anyone anywhere in intellectual conversation. There are no words to state how deeply she will be missed. The family wishes to thank the office and staff of Drs. Matthew Skewes and Ajay Acharya, with special thanks to Shirley Akers, RN and Good Samaritan Hospice of Christiansburg, VA.
