Patricia Ann Jones Smoot, formerly of Seabrook, NH, went to meet her maker on May 26, 2007 at her home in Blacksburg, VA after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Florence Haley and by a brother, George. She was married 40 years to Robert L. Jones until his death and recently married Henry T. Smoot of Radford. She attended local schools in New Hampshire including Dearborn Academy, Newburyport High School and Malden Hospital School of Nursing in Massachusetts. She was a cadet nurse during World War II and served at the Marine Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She took advanced courses at Margaret Hague Hospital in Jersey City, NJ, Jersey City Medical Center and in specialized advanced care for cancer patients at the Marine Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Her nursing was varied working in New Hampshire, New Jersey and Virginia. She was a supervisor at Heritage Hall in Virginia for 14 years and most recently was a hospice nurse for New River Valley Hospice. She had to give up nursing completely due to poor health. Mrs. Smoot was a member of the Alleghany Church of Christ in Christiansburg. Survivors include her husband, Henry T. Smoot; two sons, Joseph M. Jones of Hampton, NH and Robert C. Jones of Chesapeake, VA; two daughters, Bonita Bell Dumas of Hampton, NH and Jewel Jennifer Jones of Cape Cod, MA; two granddaughters, Denise Jacques of Rochester, NH and Tammy Jones of New Market, NH; and two great-grandchildren, Dorian and Ashley Jacques of Rochester, NH. Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at the Alleghany Church of Christ with Porter Riner officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. A graveside service will be held Monday, June 11, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the West View Cemetery in Radford. Mrs. Smoots request was that flowers are omitted and contributions be made to the Alleghany Church of Christ, 2095 N. Franklin Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073. The Smoot family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford, VA.
