Mary Elizabeth Hofmann Keyes, 83, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015. She was born in Louisville, KY, the daughter of the late Harry J. Hofmann and Mamie Sue McDevitt Hofmann. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco, and St. Jude in Radford, VA. She graduated from the Ursuline Academy in Louisville, majored in piano performance at the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Butler University, and continued study at the Indiana University School of Music. Mrs. Keyes was a lifelong music professional. She taught piano and Musikgarten classes at her studio in Woodway as well as in her home. After raising a family, she trained as an early-childhood music specialist, teaching several generations of children at the Waco Montessori School, the Central Christian Church, and Baylor University. At Baylor she was also a member of the faculty team that developed and initiated a piano laboratory program for children, and was a mentor to students working toward the masters degree in piano pedagogy. She was a member of the Waco, Texas, and National Music Teacher's Associations, the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and the Musikgarten Teacher's Association. "Mickey" Keyes was loved, treasured, adored and respected by her husband of fifty-eight years, her children, grandchildren, family and dear friends. She is survived by her husband, Roger Keyes of Radford; daughters and sons-in-laws, Dr. Rebecca Loehrer and Andrew of Radford, Mary Kathryn Bosco and Angelo of Oak Park IL,; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Keyes of Radford, Robert Keyes and Shannon of Greenville, SC; nine grandchildren: Christie, Josh, Paul, Peter, Samantha, Ashley, Luca, Brandon and Sofi; great grandchild, Noah; sisters and brother-in-law, Susan Moriarty of Frankfort, KY, Patsy Markert and Robert of Louisville; brothers and sister-in-law, Eugene and Andre Hofmann of Palm Coast FL, Robert Hofmann of Louisville; and many additional family members and friends. A memorial service in Radford was held Sunday, October 4, at the Mullins Funeral Home, the Rev. Robert Markert officiating, followed by a Celebration of Life and interment at the Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley in Blacksburg, VA. The family has designated St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, and Doctors without Borders for memorials. The Keyes family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
