Obituary

Mary Margaret Jenkins Goepel, 39, of Radford, was called home on Tuesday, March 17, 2009. She was an accomplished person who graduated from Radford High School, from Ferrum College with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and from Radford University with a Masters Degree in Social Work. Meg was all about helping others. She truly believed in paying it forward. After earning her degrees, she started the Head Start Program in Goochland County. She was truly an advocate for all people who needed help. Meg saw the positive side of everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by her family, but her family will continue on with her ideals in mind. She is survived by her beloved son Andrew Drew Chambers Goepel and his father David Andrew Goepel, both of Greenville, VA; her parents Max and Jimmie Jenkins; her brother Robert Max Jenkins; her sister and brother-in-law Jill Jenkins and Tony Alderman; nephews Robert Max Jenkins II, and William Alex Alderman; nieces Emily Walters Jenkins and Abigail Vaughn Jenkins; aunt Mary Sue Daniels; uncles Bobby Jenkins and Andrew Jackson Vaughn; several special cousins; her companion William Dean Reicher. special friends Pam Velat and Nancy King. Memorial services will be held Friday, March 20, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Radford with The Reverend David Dickerson officiating. Interment will be private in the church garden. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until the time of the service at the church and immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the New River Valley Community Services, PACT Program, 220 E. Main Street, Suite B, Radford, VA 24141 or to the Presbyterian Church of Radford Kitchen Fund, 201 Fourth Street, Radford, VA 24141. The Jenkins family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
