Mary Vernon Elkins Bishop, 99, of Hiwassee, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, November 5, 2020. She had been a resident at Salem Health & Rehab Center since March 2016. She was known as a "hard working lady" who worked at the J. Freezer & Son shirt factory in Radford in her young life, worked as a door checker at Radford University and worked timelessly as caregiver to her father and husband. She was the daughter of the late Henry Henderson Elkins and Sara Annie Bishop; and preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Bishop. Survivors include her niece, Nancy Allison Wallen of Hiwassee; and nephews, Lynwood and Sue Elkins of Christiansburg, and Dale and Barbara Elkins of Radford; great niece, Karen Vaughn Lacks of Vinton; and many friends. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
