Mary Katherine Beavers, of Radford, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015. Mary was born on October 13, 1922 in Cedar Bluff, VA. She was the oldest child of the late Stuart Allen Beavers and Nannie Lake Repass Beavers. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Stuart Allen (Bus) Beavers, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Lura Alice Robertson and her husband, Richard, of Radford, sister-in-law, Kay Beavers of Bluefield, VA. Other family members include her nieces, Mary Beth (David) Greer and Lura Ann (Larry) Pitchford of Radford; nephews, Rick (Nancy) Robertson, Boston, MA and Scott Beavers, Richmond. She is also survived by great-nieces, Joanna (Patrick) Premand, Washington DC, Allison (Russell) Greer-Smith, Oak Harbor, WA, Molly Greer, Radford, Kate Pitchford, Blacksburg; great-nephews, Gray (Jamie) Pitchford, Radford, Cole Pitchford, Radford, and Alex Robertson, Boston, MA. She was the proud great-great aunt to Denver and Maci Pitchford, Radford, and Louisa Premand, Washington DC. After graduating from Richlands High School in 1940, Mary soon began a 22-year career in Medical Records at the Mattie Williams Hospital in Richlands. She moved to Radford in the mid 1960s to be near her sister and family and to attend Radford College. Mary earned a BS (1967) and MS (1969) in History. She taught at Radford High School in the History Department for 20 years before retiring and helping care for her numerous great-nieces and nephews. She loved world history, teaching, learning and traveling. She was an avid reader, maintaining a binder for decades that listed every book she had read. She was always independent, feisty and blunt but also loving, loyal and fair. She will be truly missed. We would also like to thank the staff of Gentle Shepherd Hospice and the compassionate care they provided to Mary and her family in her final days. Visitation will be held from 2-3pm at Mullins Funeral Home on Sunday, November 22, 2015, with graveside services immediately following at West View Cemetery in Radford officiated by Rev. David A.
