Obituary

Luther Hardin Buckner, 83 of Christiansburg, went to his heavenly home Sunday December 30, 2007. He was a member of the New Hope Church of God. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in Germany. He was proprietor of several restaurants including the famous Buckners Drive-In. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years Mary P. Buckner and daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bucky Clatterbuck; two sisters and brother-in-law, Elva and Basil Gearhart and Ida Thompson; grandson J. L. Henry; many nieces and nephews and extended family; and Breanna Bland will never forget her PaPaw Buckner. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Hope Church of God in Christiansburg, with the Rev. T. Michael Bond and Rev. James Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the New Hope Church of God. The Buckner family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
