Lucy Leigh Towe, 88 of Radford, passed away with grace on Saturday, June 7, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Walter Hamilton and Ada Smith Towe. She was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Elder, Grace Kregloe and Pearl Brotherton. She was also predeceased by her twin brother, James Walter Towe. She leaves to cherish her legacy, nieces Barbara K. Tipton, Radford; Ann M. Elder, Rocky River, OH; nephews Dwight L. and Gail Kregloe, Blacksburg; Gratton and Lynne Brotherton, Salem. She has a host of great nieces and nephews. Lucy was especially loved and respected by great nephew George T. and Julie Tipton and their children, Aaron, Morgan and Zane, Blacksburg. Lucy worked at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant during WWII and was retired from VA Tech as a lab technician. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Radford. She loved to fish and passed that passion on to her niece, Barbara. Lucy was an avid golfer and during her early golfing career, she participated in womens tournaments in Pinehurst, NC and Homestead, VA. Lucy approached life with so much vigor, enthusiasm, tenacity and spunk that her neighbors affectionately elected her the Mayor of Fourth Street. Lucy set the standard for life and she always did it her way! She will be very greatly missed. The family wishes to thank her excellent caregivers, Hospice and Dr. Athena Howard, her family and staff, for their vigilance, devotion and friendship. It was Lucys wishes that there be no visitation prior to a graveside service which will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin with Rev. Gina Rhea officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to First Christian Church at 400 Tyler Ave. Radford, VA 24141 and designated to the Church World Services or to the charity of your choice. The Towe family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
