Lewis Edward Viars, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his home in Radford. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a U. S. Navy veteran having served in WWII. Ed retired from Lynchburg Foundry, was a past commander of Radford VFW Post 776, served as past president of the Radford Foundry Credit Union, was a member of the VA May #38 Radford Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and was a Magistrate for the Commonwealth of Virginia where he retired at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Louise Viars; wife, Mary Elizabeth Viars; and sisters, Norma Jean Perdue and Frances Shanklin.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Richard Anthony and Sharon Viars of Radford; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Earnest Baker of Natural Bridge; 4 grandsons; 4 great-grandsons; 2 great-granddaughters; 4 step great-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Theodore and Johnsie Viars of Salem.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Radford with Dr. Paul Lane and Rev. Kent Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Endowment Fund or the Radford Elf Shelf, 215 Third Avenue, Radford, VA 24141.
