Lewis Edward Viars, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his home in Radford. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a U. S. Navy veteran having served in WWII. Ed retired from Lynchburg Foundry, was a past commander of Radford VFW Post 776, served as past president of the Radford Foundry Credit Union, was a member of the VA May #38 Radford Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and was a Magistrate for the Commonwealth of Virginia where he retired at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Louise Viars; wife, Mary Elizabeth Viars; and sisters, Norma Jean Perdue and Frances Shanklin. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Richard Anthony and Sharon Viars of Radford; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Earnest Baker of Natural Bridge; 4 grandsons; 4 great-grandsons; 2 great-granddaughters; 4 step great-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Theodore and Johnsie Viars of Salem. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Radford with Dr. Paul Lane and Rev. Kent Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
