Obituary

LeRoy D. Pieper, 80, of Radford, died at his home on Sunday, July 10, 2016. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Wilma Harden Pieper, originally of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Karen Pieper Galvin and her husband Paul of Methuen, Mass.; son Colonel Kenneth Pieper, U. S. Army (Retired) and his wife Kathleen of Clifton, Va.; and daughter Peggy Pieper of Lowell, Mass; granddaughter Colleen Pieper Faber, her husband Scott and their daughters, Abigail and Lydia; grandson Kevin Pieper; grandson James Pieper and his wife Rachel Ardohain and their daughter, Ellie; and grandson Sean Pieper. Mr. Pieper was born in Grand Island, Neb. on October 13, 1935, and graduated from Grand Island High School and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He retired after a 22 year career as a civilian employee of the United States Army. Lees service with the Army included assignments in seven states, culminating in his assignment as the Civilian Executive Officer at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Prior to his work for the Army, Mr. Pieper worked for a number of private sector companies. Lee and his beloved wife, Wilma, enjoyed many happy days square dancing with friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Mullins Funeral Home, 120 West Main Street, Radford, Va. Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2308 Merrimac Rd., Blacksburg, Va. with Pastor John Wertz, Jr. officiating.
