Kenneth Wayne Dowdy, 73, of Radford, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. He retired from the Virginia Highway Department and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford. He was preceded in death by his parents, James William and Bernice Dowdy; son, Phillip Shaun Dowdy; and brothers, Jerry and Phillip Dowdy. Survivors include his wife, Jill Dowdy; daughters and sons-in-law, Shellie and Eric Evers of Old Wick, N.J., Angela Semones of Christiansburg, and Amy and Sinan Bektas of London, England; grandchildren, Hunter, Olivia, Patrick, Adam, Joshua and Jesse; brothers, Doug and Steve Dowdy; and sisters, Barbara Thompson and Charlsie Barker; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the church.
