Obituary

Heaven's gates opened wide to receive an earthly Saint, Juanita Baker Sutphin, on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 with her sons and family around her bedside. She was born in Radford on December 13, 1935, to the late Jesse Lee Baker and Louise McDaniel Baker. She was a lifelong member of Radford Worship Center. Among various jobs she was also employed by Radford Health Department and Radford Family Practice office for many years until she retired. Juanita lived to serve Jesus and her family. Because of her persistence and patience, her 4 boys attended church throughout their childhood learning the love, sacrifice and saving Grace of Jesus. Family meant everything to her and she was delighted and satisfied when the entire family congregated together. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marvin Blaine (Baldy) Sutphin; her parents; and brother in law, Bill Sutphin. She had 4 boys and was delighted to get 4 daughters-in-law, Rick (Sharon) Dickens, Blaine (Debby) Sutphin, Kirk (Stephanie) Sutphin, and Scot (Angie) Sutphin, all of Radford; her grandchildren and their spouses, who loved and adored their Mawmaw, Wesley (Ashley) Dicken, Kristy (Michael) Aiken, Kourtney (Adam) Craig, Justin (April) Macino, Kelly Sutphin, Alex Gillespie, Seth Gillespie, Kevin Sutphin, Jesse Sutphin and Katie Sutphin; great grandchildren, Kalee and Emilee Aiken, Alaina and Clara Craig, Trey and Amelia Macino, Logan Towrey, and Adelee Sutphin; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Robert (Patsy) Baker of Raleigh, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Geneva (Kenneth) Harris of Radford; brother-in-law and his wife, Gary (Judy) Sutphin of Illinois; and many other relatives and friends. A special thank you to her best friend, Marie Ratliff, and caregiver, Pam McNeil. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Radford Worship Center with Dr. Hal Adams officiating. Interment will follow in West View Cemetery in Radford. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.
