Joseph (Joe) Bernard Gillenwater, 80, of Greensboro, NC, formerly of Fairlawn, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 at home in Greensboro, NC. He was born on November 27, 1931 to the late William Harve and Dora Mae Gills Gillenwater, in McComas, WV. Mr. Gillenwater was retired from Klopman Mills in Dublin, VA where he operated and managed the plant Commissary for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 7 brothers, Clarence, Samuel, Alvie, Harvey, Raymond, David, and Franklin Gillenwater; four sisters, Corinne Hedger, Gertrude Ammerman, Thelma Gillenwater and Elvie Gillenwater. Survivors include three children, son, Terry Gillenwater of Christiansburg, VA, daughter, Cynthia (Mike) Rosasco of Greensboro, NC, and son, Mark Gillenwater of Dublin, VA; four grandchildren; Matthew Gillenwater of Christiansburg, Va, Macy, Spencer, and Brandon Crigler of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Mack Gillenwater of Princeton, WV and one sister, Pauline Rhodes of Oak Hill, WV and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm on Monday September 17, 2012 at Mullins Funeral Home in Radford, VA. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm - 2:00pm at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Pulaski County, VA. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his personal caregiver, Tina Patterson for her display of undeniable love and excellent care throughout Joe's battle with Alzheimer's.
