Obituary

Joseph Cleveland Akers, 77, of Christiansburg, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during the Vietnam War and spent over 20 years in the Reserves. He was owner and operator of A&S Home Repair. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Beulah Akers; brother, Oscar Akers; and sister, Eula Brammer. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley H. Akers; son, Ricky Bond and Brittany; daughter, Ashley Williams; grandchildren, Kelsey and Emily Bond; close family friends, Jerry and Sandra Bond; and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2023, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Wes Conner, Rev. Ryan Rose and Rev. David Bragg officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
