Obituary

John Aldridge Stowers, 68, of Dublin, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2010. He was born December 9, 1941 in Leesburg and was the son of the late Claude and Ellen Kirkpatrick Stowers. He graduated from Loudoun County High School in Leesburg. John Stowers was a member of the Loudoun County Planning Commission for 12 years, through the late 1970s and the late 1980s, leading the panel as it laid the policy framework for today's development in Ashburn-resulting in communities including Ashburn Village and Ashburn Farms-while establishing goals of countryside preservation in western Loudoun. He served as Chairman for most of those years. He was a member of the Lovettsville Ruritan Club and was owner and operator of Elmore Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his wife Dora Marie Voorhies Stowers. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, John Allen and Lisa Dianne Stowers of Dublin; step grandsons Everett and Jerry Smith of Fredrick, MD; step great-grandchildren Sophia and Cayden Smith; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Claude Buck S., Jr. and Donna R. Stowers of Richmond, Joseph G. and Candice Stowers of Brunswick, MD, and Gregory Lee Stowers of Richmond; sister, Carol McComb of Purcellville; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11 am at the Lovettsville New Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lovettsville, Va. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Lovettsville Lutheran Church Building Fund, 12942 Lutheran Church Road Lovettsville, VA 20180 or Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5th Street N.W. & N. Washington Street, Pulaski, Va. 24301 or your local SPCA. The Stowers family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
