John W. "Jack" Shanklin, 95, passed away Monday, October 15, 2018, at his home in Dry Valley. He was a member of the greatest generation serving with the 8th Airforce in England WWII and was a retired Christiansburg Postmaster. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bessie Shanklin; his wife of 69 years, Steel Gray Shanklin; daughter, Jacque Sue Shanklin; grandson, Jon Allen Shanklin; and many brothers and sisters. Survivors include his son, John Robert Shanklin; granddaughter, Courtney Elizabeth Shanklin; granddaughter-in-law, Angeline M. Shanklin; nieces, Tinkie Laymon and Diane Pryor; nephew, Scott Roop; and numerous other family members and friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dania Black, Sandy Smith and Betty Graham for the love and care they gave to John and Steel Gray. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Dr. Jonathan Webster officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery in Radford.
