John Wilson Sevareid, Jr. "Johnny," 60, of Radford, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, in his home. He was born November 7, 1957, in Pedricktown, New Jersey. Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Colonel John W. Sevareid, US Army (Ret.), mother, Tharsella Scheller Sevareid, and sister, Jean Sevareid Hochella. Surviving are three sisters and their spouses, Ann Sevareid Miller and husband Rodney of Durham, N.C., Susan Sevareid Dickerson and husband Sam of Riner, Va., and Sally Sevareid and husband Monty Foster of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; brother, Karl J. Sevareid and wife Sarah Ackerman of Oakland, Calif.; niece Samantha Sharp and nephew Cody Dickerson; and aunt and uncle, Deanna and Paul Beaudry of Slinger, Wisc. After graduation from Radford High School in 1977, John attended Virginia Tech and Weber State College, Ogden, Utah. Growing up the only boy among four sisters taught Johnny the benefits of laying low and speaking quietly. He loved animals, fishing, hiking, long walks, and other outdoor activities. He found the perfect job working for Valley Landscaping in Christiansburg, Va. He was one of the first employees of the company and was employed there for 27 years. The family would like to thank the staff of Carilion Hospice and the caregivers of Caregivers Placement Services LLC, for their compassionate care. We also appreciate the support and loyalty given to our brother by his co-workers and owner, Todd Walters, of Valley Landscaping. Special thanks to our "adopted" sister, Carolyn Shelburne, for all her love and assistance. Since Johnny was not one for formal affairs, a simple memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 in Grace Episcopal Churchs Grace Garden, Fourth and Harvey Streets, Radford, with the Reverend Kathy Dunagan officiating. Interment will follow the service. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
