John Jay Barry Shatzer IV was born June 16, 1980 to John Barry and Linda Kathleen Brock Shatzer in Lynchburg, VA. He attended school in Illinois, Iowa and Hampton, VA, where he graduated from Bethel High school in 1999. He received his BS from Virginia Tech in 2003. For ten years he had worked at various Christian camps and outdoor programs and youth work in Iowa and Virginia. He belonged to the United Presbyterian Church in Washington, IA. He died at his home December 26, 2005. Services were held December 30 at Makemie Woods Camp near Williamsburg, VA. He is survived by his parents of Virginia Beach, VA, and Brighton, IA, his brother Edward, of Radford., VA, his maternal grandfather, Duane Brock of Washington, IA and several aunts and uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Barry and Hazel Shatzer and his maternal grandmother, Carolyn Brock and an infant brother. Memorials may be made to Makemie Woods Camp, P. O. Box 39, Barhamsville, VA 23011. The Shatzer family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
