John Rayburn Guthrie, Jr., 78, of Christiansburg, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013. He was born in Ripplemead on May 23, 1935 to the late John Rayburn Guthrie, Sr. and Grace Martin Guthrie. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran. He was also preceded in death by his son John Rayburn Guthrie, III. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Kyle Frets of Floyd; sister and brother-in-law Jean and Jim Browning of Salem; grandson, Trevor Frets; and great-grandson, Logan. A memorial graveside service will be held Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. In lieu of flower the family request donations made to the American Heart Association, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
