John Frederick Carper, 70, of Shawsville, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012. He was U. S. Army retired and a Soldier of the Salvation Army. He was preceded in death by his parents James Randolph and Elva Maxie Carper. Survivors include his wife of 47 years Mary Henley Carper; sons and daughter-in-law Greg and Kelly Carper of Centreville, VA and David Carper and fiance Rina Rhaym of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; daughters and sons-in-law Shannon and Troy Martin of El Paso, TX, and Kristl and Barney Kable of Manassas, VA; and grandchildren Holly and Max Carper and Jakob Martin. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 7:00 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Capt. James Forrer officiating. Military graveside services will be held Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
