Obituary

Jessie Wilbert Wright, 84 of Radford, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Johnson City, TN. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. He was a U. S. Army WWII veteran and former POW, and was captured in Germany in 1944 while serving with the 28th Infantry Division. He was recognized for 50 years of service to the Disabled American Veterans. He was born May 24, 1924 the son of the late Sherman E. and Hattie Hinkley Wright. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Frances B. Wright of Radford; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Edward Sams of Watauga, TN; two grandchildren, Larry Sams of Radford and Derek Sams of Lynchburg; and three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday November 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gethsemane Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin where members of V. F. W. Post #7854 of Floyd will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Wright family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
