Janet Louise Coyle Hansen died September 26, 2006 at her home in Radford, VA after a long battle with Inclusion Body Myositis. She was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1934. She grew up in Medford, Oregon then lived most of her adult life in Bethesda, Maryland before moving to Radford, Va one year ago. During her life she was an enthusiastic volunteer for many organizations including Guldesky swim program for the handicapped, Girl and Boy Scouts, and the Capital Dog Training Club. She met her husband while getting her Ph D. in Genetics at University of Wisconsin in Madison. They were married for 44 years. She worked for 19 years as a tax preparer for H&R Block in the Premium Office. Janet is survived by her husband, Carl Tams Hansen of Radford, her son Alan Bruce Hansen, daughter-in-law Jacqueline Hansen, grandson Mitchell of Redwood City, California; and daughter Carol Hansen Kern, son-in-law James Donald Kern, granddaughter Sarah Marie Kern, and grandson Jason Benjamin Kern all of Radford, Va. She was also survived by sister-in-law Sandy Coyle, nieces Rachel and Jill Coyle and nephew Charles Coyle and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Coyle and Natalie Coyle and brother Edward Coyle. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend and volunteer and will be greatly missed by all her loved ones. As per her wishes, her body has been donated to science then will be cremated with ashes returned to the family. A memorial service will be held in her honor at Selu in Radford, VA on November 11, 2006 at 1:30 pm. The Rev. Christine Brownlie will be presiding. A wake and visitation with the family will be held at Carls home of 500 Harvey St., Radford following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made in her name to The Myositis Foundation or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. The family wishes to thank the community of Radford, Virginia and Universal Universalist Church of New River Valley for their love and support.
