James Edward Smith, 74, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at his home in Radford. He spent his younger years playing softball but after retirement loved to spend time playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Albert and Sally Saul Smith, and sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Harold Owens. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Scottie Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Tracy Smith; step-grandchildren, Josh Quesenberry and his wife Alex, and Amber Roop; step great-grandchildren, Hunnter and Hayden Quesenberry; brothers and sisters, Bob Smith and wife Elvira, Peggy Crossman and husband Tom, Randy Durman and wife Maria, and Stan Durman and wife Iva Jo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Barry Vansteenburg officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
