James M. (Mike) Piper passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Radford, Virginia. He is predeceased by his bride of 62 years, Virginia Lee Piper, and leaves behind his children: Michael Piper of Frostburg, Maryland; Patty Piper Yaeger and Scott of Blue Springs, Missouri; Greg and Maricca Handy Piper of Draper, Virginia; grandchildren: Mandy Mabry and Micah Stoute of Charlotte, North Carolina; Kevin Mabry of Kansas City, Missouri; and two beloved great grandchildren: Micah Peter and Virginia Lee Stoute; his sister, Lois Ucci of Pensacola, Florida; and sister-in-law, Fay Plummer of Frostburg, Maryland. Mike was born on January 28, 1924 in Cumberland, Maryland. A World War II veteran, he was employed by Hercules, Inc., and retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He was an active member of St. Jude's Catholic Church, and was an avid baseball fan. A memorial service celebrating Mike's life will be held at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Radford, Virginia on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Sunrise Burial Park, also in Radford, immediately following services The family would like to thank Radford Health and Rehab Center for all of their kindness and wonderful care given to our father. The Piper family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
