James (Jim) Ferrell Lawson, 65, of Goldbond, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013. He was a U. S. Army veteran who served in combat in Vietnam and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant and retired City of Radford Police Officer with 28 years of service and retired with the rank of Captain. Survivors include his former wife and companion, Wanda F. Lawson, daughters, Cindy Crosier of Radford and Lisa Darnell and Earl Yates of Christiansburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Barbara Simpkins of Radford and Brian and Sherry Simpkins of Lexington; granddaughter and his pride and joy, Brittany Gail Poff; grandsons, Tyler Swisher, Jamie Huddle and Greg Huddle; great grandchildren, Sage and Olive. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 12:30 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. John Tibbs officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm at the funeral home. The Lawson family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
