Obituary

James (Jim) Franklin Clark, 91, of Radford, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Jim was born in Rappahannock County on December 26, 1921 the son of the late Addie Frank and Bertha (Atkins) Clark. Jim graduated from Luray High School and on August 1, 1941, he came to Radford to work for the Norfolk & Western Railroad. There he met Catherine. In November 1942, he entered the United States Army and served in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. In January 1946, he returned to Radford from the war and married Catherine on February 14, 1946. Jim retired from Hercules in 1984. Jim was a member of Grove United Methodist Church, a life member of the VFW Post 776, a member of The American Legion Post No. 30 for over 60 years, and a lifetime charter member of the National World War II Memorial. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Valda Moses. Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Catherine Austin Clark, his son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Palma Clark, two grandsons, Timothy and J Clark, and one great-granddaughter, Whitney Clark. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Interment will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Grove United Methodist Church for the Holston United Methodist Home for Children. The family would like to thank the staff at Wheatland Assisted Living Facility in Fairlawn and Good Sam Hospice, and Dr. Russell Davis, Dr. Lee Thompson and Dr. A. Uzair Wyne for their excellent care. The Clark family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
