James Wesley Altizer, 61, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 at his home in Christiansburg surrounded by his family. He was a member of Christiansburg Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald B. Altizer. Survivors include his mother, Helen Naff Altizer; his wife of 38 years, Martha Sowers Altizer; son, Wesley Beldon Altizer; daughter, Amanda Desiree Altizer; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and John Richardson; and brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Deneise Altizer, all of Christiansburg; Chester and Claudine Sowers and family; and nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 2 pm at the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren with Pastor Donald Peters officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 4 pm until 6 pm Saturday at the church. The Altizer family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
