James Kyle Akers, 96, of Radford, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017. He was a member of Morgans Chapel Church in New River and worked with Robertson-Fowler Construction Company building roads. He was a combat wounded veteran of WWII, serving in the 4th Marine Division. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Walker Akers; 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Gary Akers of Carthage, Ill.; granddaughter and her husband, Sarah and Ian ONeal of Bowan, Ill.; great grandchildren, Kyle ONeal and Kaitlyn ONeal; sisters, Mary Buckner of Snowville and Reva Martin of Christiansburg; and special friends Corrine Dolinger, Pete Smyth and Vernon Mccoy. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ginny Tompkins officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
