Obituary

Jacob Haller Lawson, Jr., 86, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010 at his home in Wytheville surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Max Meadows, Virginia and was a respected member of the Wytheville business community throughout his career. He was a co-owner of Hobert N. Grubb Corp. and a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where he was formerly Sunday School Superintendent and lay leader for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob H. Sr., and Mary Holston Lawson, and his wife of 56 years, Edna Elizabeth Tootsie Hedrick Lawson. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Patty Hurst of Wytheville, Sylvia and Dwight Shelton of Blacksburg, and Betsy and Gary Gillman of Wytheville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jamie Hurst, Chris and Laura Shelton, Jeff and Laura Shelton, and Michael Gillman; and a great grandson, Jacob Dwight Shelton. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant UMC with Rev. Joe Mack Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Mt.
