Jack Baker Calfee, born April 23, 1929 in Wythe County, Va, departed this earth peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was a member of Grove United Methodist Church and a US Air Force veteran. He was a graduate of Concord University, a retired supervisor with Kroger Corp and spent many hours volunteering at Carilion NRV Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Dyer and Gussie Baker Calfee, and siblings, Merle Robinette, Robert Calfee, Sadie Shumate and Jean Calfee. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Odell Wiley Calfee; sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Rhea Calfee, Scott and Cindy Calfee, and Todd and Kathy Calfee; grandchildren, Jared and his wife Alicia, Jordan, Joel, Casey, Kayla, Andrew, Emma and Alyssa; brother, Bill Calfee; and sisters, Anne Kessinger, Fannie Rutherford, Jenny Carter and Peggy Hilton. We will miss the "Big Bison" but that is how it should be. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Grove United Methodist Church in Radford with Rev. Karen Lane officiating and members of VFW Post #776 conducting military rites. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Grove UMC, 1020 Tyler Ave., Radford, VA 24141.
