Iva Shumate Phipps, 78, of Radford, died on Sunday, January 16, 2011. She was the daughter of Mont Dale Shumate and Fanny Plummer Shumate of Radford who operated the Square Deal Market of East Radford for many years. She is survived by her husband of 52 years Edwin S. Phipps, son Gregory, daughters Deborah Lane and Kristi and her husband Dennis Jones, granddaughters Kristin Chapman, Kaitlin Akers, and Karli and Emma Jones, and grandson Andrew Phipps, all of the Radford area. She is also survived by her half brother T. G. Plummer of Winston-Salem, NC, special cousin Johnny Shumate and his wife Charlotte of Crumpler, NC, and nephew Ricky Johnson and his wife Terisa of Des Allemands, LA. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 4 pm until 6 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. The funeral will be private at a later date. Flowers will be welcomed.
